01Local context
The 2021 ABS QuickStats for the Wollongong local government area recorded 55,191 separate houses, 9,827 semi-detached, row or terrace houses and townhouses, and 14,928 flats or apartments. It also recorded 29,052 occupied dwellings with two registered motor vehicles and 14,977 with three or more. Those dated Census counts cover the wider council area, not every property in Dapto, Corrimal, Woonona or Port Kembla, and they do not measure garage-door demand.
They do support two practical enquiry paths. A detached-home lead should identify the affected opening, trapped-vehicle status, another safe access point, driveway clearance and whether the request changes the garage structure. A townhouse or apartment enquiry should identify the lot owner, owners corporation or strata manager, whether the door or opener may be common property, work-hour and parking constraints and who can approve an inspection and the final scope.
NSW Government strata guidance says owners should check their scheme by-laws and follow the applicable approval process when renovations affect common property. An ad cannot determine ownership or approval responsibility from the property label alone. Wollongong City Council says most carports can be exempt development and a garage that meets the relevant rules may use a complying-development path, while a garage that does not meet those rules needs a development application.
02Campaign and claim checks
That makes a new garage or altered opening a different campaign branch from repairing or replacing a door in an existing opening. Council also says approval is needed before building a new driveway or replacing an existing driveway, and road-reserve works can require a Section 138 application. A door-only service should not be advertised as needing driveway approval, but a broader project that changes access, uses plant on the road reserve or creates a new crossing needs an address-specific check.
Heritage-listed properties require another question rather than a blanket exemption claim: Council says construction of garages and replacement of significant doors with aluminium-framed elements are among work types that will not be considered through its minor-works heritage exemption process. Fixed electrical wiring for an opener must still be routed to the appropriately licensed provider.
Meta Ads Guys has a published Sydney garage-door case study from a dated connected-account snapshot. It demonstrates wider NSW niche experience only; its Meta-reported enquiries are not Wollongong inspections, approvals, repaired doors, installations, accepted quotes, sales or revenue and do not predict another campaign.
