WA Government guidance says contractor registration generally applies to building work requiring a permit and valued at $20,000 or more, with a $50,000 threshold for relevant Class 10a work from 1 July 2026.
Practitioner registration allows an individual to act as nominated supervisor, while contractor registration authorises the individual, partnership or company to trade as the builder. For home-building work, fixed-price contracts from $7,500 to $500,000 receive protections under the Home Building Contracts Act, and home indemnity insurance is required for permit work above $20,000.
A Perth campaign needs to use the contractor’s registration, not merely a supervisor title, and keep preparation-of-plans agreements distinct from the construction contract. Joondalup, Wanneroo, Armadale and Rockingham stretch across a long north–south market; the form should qualify the property and realistic supervision area before offering a site meeting, especially where access, coastal exposure or new-estate timing may affect the builder’s project profile.
