01What changes in Canberra
Access Canberra says motor vehicle repairers need a trader licence to perform repairs on vehicles and their parts as a business. Current automatic-recognition guidance also says motor vehicle repairers must operate from approved premises, which is relevant to how a mobile operation is authorised and described. Official registration inspections are a distinct service: authorised examiners work through an approved Authorised Inspection Station and need the relevant training and mechanical qualification.
A Canberra campaign must not imply that an ordinary mobile repairer can issue an inspection outcome at a driveway unless the current authorisation and premises requirements are met. Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Woden Valley can be served efficiently only when the technician’s routes, job types and appointment windows are defined.
Apartment parking, public roads and workplace sites need access approval and suitable work conditions. Quotes should state any diagnostic fee and obtain consent for extra work, while specialised or unsafe tasks should be redirected rather than sold through a universal “we fix it on site” promise.
